  1  3 A Resolution honoring Anne Wignall for achieving the
  1  4    2001 Prudential Spirit of Community Award.
  1  5    WHEREAS, Anne Wignall, an esteemed resident of
  1  6 Newton, and a student at B.C. Berg Middle School, has
  1  7 achieved national recognition for exemplary volunteer
  1  8 service by receiving a 2001 Prudential Spirit of
  1  9 Community Award; and
  1 10    WHEREAS, this prestigious award, presented by The
  1 11 Prudential Insurance Company of America in partnership
  1 12 with the National Association of Secondary School
  1 13 Principals, honors young volunteers across America who
  1 14 have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to
  1 15 serving their communities; and
  1 16    WHEREAS, Ms. Wignall earned this award by founding
  1 17 a nonprofit organization called Care Bags Foundation,
  1 18 that provides "care bags" filled with donated toys and
  1 19 hygiene items to abused or displaced children, with
  1 20 her efforts as director including the contacting of
  1 21 local human services agencies to present the idea,
  1 22 coordinating volunteers to sew the bags, approaching
  1 23 businesses for donations to fill them, and
  1 24 distributing the bags, and conducting a workshop at a
  1 25 regional volunteer conference encouraging others to
  1 26 start similar programs in their communities; and
  1 27    WHEREAS, as a recipient of these awards, Ms.
  1 28 Wignall will receive a monetary award, an engraved
  1 29 medallion, and an all-expense paid trip to Washington,
  1 30 D.C., in May 2001, where she will join other states'
  2  1 nominees for national recognition events, and the
  2  2 opportunity to be named among America's top 10 youth
  2  3 volunteers of the year; and
  2  4    WHEREAS, the success of the state of Iowa, the
  2  5 strength of our communities, and the overall vitality
  2  6 of American society depend, in great measure, upon the
  2  7 dedication of young people like Ms. Wignall, who use
  2  8 their considerable talents and resources to serve
  2  9 others; NOW THEREFORE,
  2 10    BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
  2 11 That the House of Representatives hereby congratulates
  2 12 and honors Ms. Anne Wignall, as recipient of a
  2 13 Prudential Spirit of Community Award, recognizes her
  2 14 outstanding record of volunteer service, peer
  2 15 leadership, and community spirit, and extends best
  2 16 wishes for her continued success and happiness.
  2 17    BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That, after adoption, the
  2 18 Chief Clerk of the House of Representatives shall send
  2 19 a copy of this Resolution to Ms. Wignall.
