1 1 Section 1. Section 294A.14, unnumbered paragraphs 9 and
1 2 10, Code 2001, are amended to read as follows:
1 3 For school districts, additional instructional work
1 4 assignments may include but are not limited to general
1 5 curriculum planning and development, vertical articulation of
1 6 curriculum, horizontal curriculum coordination, development of
1 7 educational measurement practices for the school district,
1 8 participation in assessment activities leading to
1 9 certification by the national board for professional teaching
1 10 standards, attendance at workshops and other programs for
1 11 service as cooperating teachers for student teachers,
1 12 development of plans for assisting beginning teachers during
1 13 their first year of teaching, attendance at summer staff
1 14 development programs, development of staff development
1 15 programs for other teachers to be presented during the school
1 16 year, participation in family support programs, staffing media
1 17 services centers to provide summer programming, development of
1 18 programs which provide instruction in conflict resolution and
1 19 mediation techniques for staff and students, development of
1 20 anger management instructional programs for students, and
1 21 other plans locally determined in the manner specified in
1 22 section 294A.15 and approved by the department of education
1 23 under section 294A.16 that are of equal importance or more
1 24 appropriately meet the educational needs of the school
1 25 district.
1 26 For area education agencies, additional instructional work
1 27 assignments may include but are not limited to providing
1 28 assistance and support to school districts in general
1 29 curriculum planning and development, providing assistance to
1 30 school districts in vertical articulation of curriculum and
1 31 horizontal curriculum coordination, development of educational
1 32 measurement practices for school districts in the area
1 33 education agency, development of plans for assisting beginning
1 34 teachers during their first year of teaching, attendance or
1 35 instruction at summer staff development programs, development
2 1 of staff development programs for school district teachers to
2 2 be presented during the school year, participation in family
2 3 support programs, staffing media services centers to provide
2 4 summer programming, development of staff development programs
2 5 which provide instruction in conflict resolution and mediation
2 6 techniques, assisting school district teachers in the
2 7 development of anger management instructional programs for
2 8 students, and other plans determined in the manner specified
2 9 in section 294A.15 and approved by the department of education
2 10 under section 294A.16 that are of equal importance or more
2 11 appropriately meet the educational needs of the area education
2 12 agency.
2 13 EXPLANATION
2 14 This bill includes in the description of additional
2 15 instructional work assignments, for which a teacher may
2 16 receive supplemental pay under phase III of the educational
2 17 excellence program, the staffing of media services centers in
2 18 order to provide summer programming.
