  1  1    Section 1.  Section 321.324A, subsection 1, Code 2001, is
  1  2 amended to read as follows:
  1  3    1.  For purposes of this section, "funeral procession"
  1  4 means a procession of motor vehicles accompanying the body of
  1  5 a deceased person during daylight hours which is being
  1  6 escorted by a vehicle continually displaying flashing its
  1  7 emergency signal lamps flashing simultaneously and using
  1  8 lighted head lamps and identifying flags, and keeping all
  1  9 other motor vehicles with lighted head lamps and flashing
  1 10 emergency signal lamps in close formation.
  1 11    Sec. 2.  Section 321.423, subsection 2, Code 2001, is
  1 12 amended by adding the following new paragraph:
  1 13    NEW PARAGRAPH.  h.  On a motor vehicle which is part of a
  1 14 funeral procession pursuant to section 321.324A.  
  1 15                           EXPLANATION
  1 16    This bill amends Code section 321.324A to provide that
  1 17 motor vehicles taking part in a funeral procession shall use
  1 18 flashing emergency signal lamps in addition to lighted head
  1 19 lamps.  Currently, such motor vehicles are directed to use
  1 20 lighted head lamps.
  1 21    The bill also amends Code section 321.423, which regulates
  1 22 the use of flashing lights on motor vehicles, to provide that
  1 23 motor vehicles taking part in a funeral procession are
  1 24 exempted from the prohibition on flashing lights on or in
  1 25 motor vehicles.
