1 1 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. ___

1 3 A Concurrent Resolution requesting that the legislative
1 4 council create an interim study committee to review
1 5 ways to simplify Iowa's income tax forms.
1 6 WHEREAS, Iowa's income tax forms are becoming more
1 7 complicated as state and federal income taxes become
1 8 more complicated, which requires the use of tax
1 9 preparers to fill out the state's income tax forms;
1 10 and
1 11 WHEREAS, the more complicated the income tax laws
1 12 become, the greater the corresponding increase in
1 13 complexity of the tax forms, and the more inequitable
1 14 the income tax laws become in terms of administration;
1 15 NOW THEREFORE,
1 16 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, THE
1 17 SENATE CONCURRING, That the legislative council is
1 18 requested to create a simplification of income tax
1 19 forms interim study committee for the 2002 interim.
1 20 If created, the committee should be directed to work
1 21 in cooperation with the department of revenue and
1 22 finance in modifying the income tax forms to make the
1 23 tax forms simpler, along with making corresponding
1 24 changes in the state income tax laws.
