1 1 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. ___
1 2 BY HEATON
1 3 A Concurrent Resolution honoring Dr. William Campbell
1 4 for more than fifty years of service to the people
1 5 of Iowa.
1 6 WHEREAS, Dr. William Campbell began his career of
1 7 service in this state as public school psychologist in
1 8 1951; and
1 9 WHEREAS, Dr. Campbell served as assistant
1 10 administrator of the State Mental Health Institute at
1 11 Cherokee from 1952 until 1968 and was director of
1 12 planning and research for the predecessor agency to
1 13 the Department of Human Services in 1968 and 1969; and
1 14 WHEREAS, Dr. Campbell has served as the
1 15 superintendent of the Glenwood Resource Center from
1 16 March 19, 1969, to the present, and during that period
1 17 he also served for three years as superintendent of
1 18 the State Mental Health Institute at Clarinda; and
1 19 WHEREAS, Dr. Campbell has been a leader in numerous
1 20 state and national organization efforts for improving
1 21 the quality of services to persons with mental illness
1 22 or developmental disabilities and for enhancing the
1 23 level of professionalism among those who provide the
1 24 services; and
1 25 WHEREAS, Dr. Campbell's accomplishments and
1 26 interests are many as demonstrated by his attainment
1 27 of the rank of full colonel in the Army Reserve, by
1 28 riding his bicycle great distances on the Des Moines
1 29 Register's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa
1 30 (RAGBRAI), by playing bridge, and by visiting resource
2 1 center residents in area hospitals; and
2 2 WHEREAS, Dr. Campbell and his wife, Jo, are parents
2 3 to Doug, Gregg, and Steve, grandparents, and great-
2 4 grandparents; NOW THEREFORE,
2 5 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, THE
2 6 SENATE CONCURRING, That the General Assembly of the
2 7 State of Iowa recognizes Dr. William Campbell and, on
2 8 behalf of the people of Iowa, expresses grateful
2 9 appreciation to Dr. Campbell for his many years of
2 10 public service, particularly his efforts involving
2 11 persons with developmental disabilities who have been
2 12 served through the State Resource Center at Glenwood;
2 13 and
2 14 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Chief Clerk of the
2 15 House of Representatives shall produce an official
2 16 copy of this resolution for presentation to Dr.
2 17 William Campbell.
