1 beginning July 1, 1994, and ending June 30, 2000 2004,
2 twenty thousand dollars of the funds allocated in this
3 paragraph shall be expended for staff development,
4 research, and the development of strategies for
5 coordination with community-based youth organizations
6 and agencies. A school that received a grant during
7 the fiscal year beginning July 1, 1993, or July 1,
8 1997, is ineligible to receive a grant under this
9 paragraph. Subject to the approval of the state board
10 of education, the allocation made in this paragraph
11 may be renewed for additional four-year periods of
12 time.
13 e. Notwithstanding paragraph "c", for each of the
14 fiscal years during the fiscal period beginning July
15 1, 1998, and ending June 30, 2000 2004, fifty thousand
16 dollars of the funds allocated in paragraph "c" shall
17 be granted to each of the schools that received grants
18 under subsection 3 during the fiscal year beginning
19 July 1, 1993, or July 1, 1997, to allow for expansion
20 and to include identified minimum services if the
21 school submits a program plan pursuant to subsection
22 3.
23 Sec. 26. Section 279.51, subsection 1, Code
24 Supplement 1999, is amended by adding the following
25 new paragraphs:
26 NEW PARAGRAPH. g. From the moneys allocated in
27 paragraph "c", for each fiscal year in which moneys
28 are allocated, the sum of one hundred twenty thousand
29 dollars shall be used to support the family resource
30 center demonstration program established under chapter
31 256C.
32 NEW PARAGRAPH. h. From the moneys allocated in
33 paragraph "c", for each fiscal year in which moneys
34 are allocated, the sum of four hundred eighty thousand
35 dollars shall be used to support the extended learning
36 opportunities demonstration grant program. The
37 extended learning opportunities demonstration grant
38 program is established in the department of education
39 as a four-year demonstration grant program. The
40 department shall administer the program and provide
41 grants to establish at least one model program in a
42 school district with an enrollment of less than one
43 thousand two hundred, in a school district with an
44 enrollment of one thousand two hundred and not more
45 than four thousand nine hundred ninety-nine, and in a
46 school district with an enrollment of at least five
47 thousand. "Extended learning opportunity" means any
48 service provided outside the hours of a normal school
49 day or beyond the required school year and which is
50 designed to maximize student and family success.
