1 1 Amend Senate File 361 as follows:
1 2 #1. Page 1, by inserting after line 30 the
1 3 following:
1 4 "Sec. . YOUTH LEADERSHIP MODEL. There is
1 5 appropriated from the general fund of the state to the
1 6 Iowa department of corrections for the fiscal year
1 7 beginning July 1, 1999, and ending June 30, 2000, the
1 8 following amount, or so much thereof as is necessary,
1 9 to be used for the purpose designated:
1 10 For youth leadership model programs to help at-risk
1 11 youth in the judicial district departments of
1 12 correctional services selected by the department:
1 13 .................................................. $ 100,000
1 14 The department of corrections shall establish
1 15 criteria for judicial district departments of
1 16 correctional services to apply for and receive moneys
1 17 from the department for assistance in implementing a
1 18 youth leadership model program.
1 19 As a part of the program, the judicial district
1 20 department of correctional services may recruit, to
1 21 work with at-risk children, college or high school
1 22 students in the judicial district, regardless of
1 23 gender, recommended by their respective schools as
1 24 good role models, including, but not limited to,
1 25 students who possess ability in one or more of the
1 26 following areas: intellectual ability, leadership
1 27 ability, athletic ability, visual arts ability, or
1 28 performing arts ability."
