1 1 Section 1. Section 321.1, subsection 69, paragraph c, Code
1 2 1999, is amended to read as follows:
1 3 c. Operated by a municipally or privately owned urban
1 4 transit company or a regional transit system as defined in
1 5 section 324A.1 for the transportation of children as part of
1 6 or in addition to their regularly scheduled service; or
1 7 EXPLANATION
1 8 This bill amends Code section 321.1 to revise a definition
1 9 applicable to Code chapter 321, regulating motor vehicles and
1 10 providing for rules of the road. The definition of a school
1 11 bus is modified to exclude vehicles which are operated by a
1 12 regional transit system, as defined in Code section 324A.1,
1 13 for the transportation of children as part of or in addition
1 14 to their regularly scheduled service. Currently, the
1 15 definition of school bus excludes such vehicles operated by a
1 16 municipally or privately owned urban transit company for the
1 17 same purpose. Code chapter 321 provides several regulations
1 18 for school buses and school bus drivers.
