  LEAVES OF ABSENCE

  Leaves of absence were granted as follows:

  Senators Kramer and Maddox until they arrive on request of Senator Iverson
  and
  Senator Vilsack until he arrives on request of Senator Judge.

  BILL REFERRED TO COMMITTEE

  Senate Iverson asked and received unanimous consent that Senate
  File 468 be referred from the Regular Calendar to the committee on
  Natural Resources and Environment.

  CONSIDERATION OF BILL
  (Regular Calendar)

  House File 416

  On motion of Senator McCoy, House File 416, a bill for an act
  relating to regulation of trucks and certain other large motor vehicles,
  including maximum vehicle weights, defining terms, providing
  effective dates, and making penalties applicable, with report of
  committees on Transportation and Ways and Means recommending
  passage, was taken up for consideration.

  Senator Drake offered amendment S-3362 filed by Senators
  Drake, Borlaug and McCoy on April 2, 1997, to pages 1, 2, 9 and 10 of
  the bill and moved its adoption.

  Amendment S-3362 was adopted by a voice vote.

  The Chair announced that amendment S-3187 was not eligible for
  consideration.

  Senator McCoy moved that the bill be read the last time now and
  placed upon its passage, which motion prevailed by a voice vote, and
  the bill was read the last time.

  On the question "Shall the bill pass?" (H.F. 416) the vote was:
