  1  1    Section 1.  Section 295.4, subsection 1, Code 1997, is
  1  2 amended to read as follows:
  1  3    1.  School districts, as defined in section 295.2,
  1  4 subsection 8, shall expend funds received pursuant to section
  1  5 295.2 for the acquisition, lease, lease-purchase,
  1  6 installation, and maintenance of instructional technology
  1  7 equipment, including hardware and software, materials and
  1  8 supplies related to instructional technology, and staff
  1  9 development and training related to instructional technology,
  1 10 and shall establish priorities for the use of the funds.
  1 11 However, funds Funds received by a school district pursuant to
  1 12 section 295.2 shall not may be expended to add a not more than
  1 13 one full-time equivalent position or otherwise increase
  1 14 staffing to employ a network specialist, who has at least
  1 15 three years of experience with network topology, to design,
  1 16 implement, or maintain a wireless area network or a local area
  1 17 network and otherwise integrate technologies into the
  1 18 classroom.  
  1 19                           EXPLANATION
  1 20    This bill permits a school district receiving school
  1 21 improvement technology program funds to expend those funds to
  1 22 employ one network specialist with three years of experience
  1 23 to design, implement, or maintain a wireless area network or a
  1 24 local area network and otherwise integrate technologies into
  1 25 the classroom.
