  1  1    Amend the amendment, H-1866, to Senate File 549, as
  1  2 amended, passed, and reprinted by the Senate, as
  1  3 follows:
  1  4    #1.  Page 5, by striking line 27 and inserting the
  1  5 following:  "256A.3.
  1  6    Sec. ___.  Section 257.6, subsection 5, Code 1997,
  1  7 is amended to read as follows:
  1  8    5.  WEIGHTED ENROLLMENT.  Weighted enrollment is
  1  9 the budget enrollment plus the district's additional
  1 10 enrollment because of special education calculated on
  1 11 December 1 of the base year plus additional pupils
  1 12 added due to the application of the supplementary
  1 13 weighting plus the district's additional enrollment
  1 14 for transportation costs based upon the sparsity
  1 15 factor calculated under subsection 6.
  1 16    Weighted enrollment for special education support
  1 17 services costs is equal to the weighted enrollment
  1 18 minus the additional pupils added due to the
  1 19 application of the supplementary weighting.
  1 20    Sec. ___.  Section 257.6, Code 1997, is amended by
  1 21 adding the following new subsection:
  1 22    NEW SUBSECTION.  6.  SPARSITY FACTOR.  For budget
  1 23 years beginning on or after July 1, 1998, a school
  1 24 district having fewer than three and five-tenths
  1 25 resident public school pupils per square mile on
  1 26 December 1 of the base year shall receive additional
  1 27 enrollment for transportation costs because of the
  1 28 sparsity factor.  This additional enrollment is equal
  1 29 to one-tenth of the school district's actual
  1 30 enrollment for the base year.""
