                   Des Moines, Iowa, Tuesday, January 17, 1995



         The Senate met in regular session at 10:14 a.m., President Boswell
    presiding.

         Prayer was offered by the Reverend David Renfro, pastor of the St.
    Paul Lutheran Church, Aurelia, Iowa.

         The Journals of Thursday, January 12 and Friday, January 13, 1995,
    were approved.



                              INTRODUCTION OF BILLS

         Senate File 38, by Bisignano, Husak, Priebe, and Douglas, a bill
    for  an act to support renovation and capital projects relating to the
    Iowa state fairgrounds by providing an appropriation.

         Read first time and passed on file.

         Senate File 39, by Banks, a bill for  an act relating to
    underground storage tank upgrade requirements and providing effective
    and retroactive applicability dates.

         Read first time and passed on file.



                                LEAVES OF ABSENCE

         Leaves of absence were granted as follows:

         Senator Giannetto until he arrives on request of Senator Horn;
    Senator McKean until he arrives on request of Senator Bartz and Senator
    Lundby until she arrives on request of the Chair.



                                   QUORUM CALL

         Senator Horn requested a non record roll call to determine that a
    quorum was present.
