1 1 Section 1. Section 147.1, Code 1995, is amended by adding
1 2 the following new subsection:
1 3 NEW SUBSECTION. 11. "Surgery" means and includes surgical
1 4 procedures, surgical services, surgical treatments, operative
1 5 surgery, and surgical operations including but not limited to
1 6 the treatment and diagnosis of disease, conditions, injury,
1 7 and deformity by the alteration of human tissue by any
1 8 mechanical means; application of extreme cold, sonic waves,
1 9 laser, or ionizing radiation in which tissue is cut, burned,
1 10 frozen, vaporized, disrupted, or otherwise physically altered.
1 11 Sec. 2. CURRENT PRACTICES &endash; CONTINUATION. This Act shall
1 12 not be construed to limit or negate procedures, services,
1 13 treatments, or other actions included in the definition of the
1 14 practice of any health-related profession on or before July 1,
1 15 1995.
1 16 EXPLANATION
1 17 This bill provides a definition of "surgery" for the
1 18 purposes of the health-related professions chapter of the
1 19 Code. "Surgery" is currently not defined in the Code and the
1 20 definition in the bill specifies the procedures, services, and
1 21 treatments to be considered as surgery. The bill also
1 22 provides that the bill is not to be construed as limiting or
1 23 negating any procedure, service, treatment, or other action
1 24 included in the definition of the practice of any health-
1 25 related profession on July 1, 1995.
