1 1 Section 1. Section 257.11, subsection 5, Code 1995, is
1 2 amended by adding the following new unnumbered paragraph:
1 3 NEW UNNUMBERED PARAGRAPH. For purposes of this section,
1 4 "superintendent" includes a person jointly employed under
1 5 section 273.7A or section 280.15 to serve in the capacity of a
1 6 school superintendent and who holds a superintendent's
1 7 endorsement issued under chapter 272 by the board of
1 8 educational examiners.
1 9 Sec. 2. EFFECTIVE DATE &endash; RETROACTIVITY. This Act, being
1 10 deemed of immediate importance, takes effect upon enactment
1 11 and is retroactively applicable to July 1, 1994.
1 12 EXPLANATION
1 13 This bill defines the word "superintendent" for purposes of
1 14 eligibility in the supplementary weighting plan for public
1 15 school districts. Under the bill, "superintendent" includes a
1 16 person jointly employed by a school district and under a
1 17 contract with an area education agency to provide
1 18 superintendency services, or a person jointly employed by two
1 19 or more school districts and who serves in the capacity of a
1 20 school superintendent and who holds a superintendent's
1 21 endorsement issued by the board of educational examiners.
1 22 The bill takes effect upon enactment and is retroactively
1 23 applicable to July 1, 1994.
