PAG LIN 1 1 Section 1. Section 35A.2, subsection 2, Code 1995, is 1 2 amended to read as follows: 1 3 2.FiveSix commissioners shall be honorably discharged 1 4 members of the armed forces of the United States. The 1 5 American legion of Iowa, disabled American veterans department 1 6 of Iowa, veterans of foreign wars department of Iowa, American 1 7 veterans of World War II, Korea, and Vietnam, the Vietnam 1 8 veterans of America, and the military order of the purple 1 9 heart, through their department commanders, shall submit two 1 10 names respectively from their organizations to the governor. 1 11 The governor shall appoint from each of the organizations one 1 12 representative to serve as a member of the commission, unless 1 13 the appointments would conflict with the bipartisan and gender 1 14 balance provisions of sections 69.16 and 69.16A. In addition, 1 15 the governor shall appointtwo membersone member of the 1 16 public, knowledgeable in the general field of veterans 1 17 affairs, to serve on the commission. 1 18 Sec. 2. Section 35A.2, subsection 3, Code 1995, is amended 1 19 by striking the subsection. 1 20 Sec. 3. Section 35A.3, Code 1995, is amended by adding the 1 21 following new subsection: 1 22 NEW SUBSECTION. 13. Conduct an equal number of meetings 1 23 at Camp Dodge and the Iowa veterans home. The agenda for each 1 24 meeting shall include a reasonable time period for public 1 25 comment. 1 26 Sec. 4. REPEAL. 1992 Iowa Acts, chapter 1140, section 44, 1 27 is repealed. 1 28 Sec. 5. INFORMATION STORAGE &endash; TRAINING &endash; REPORTS. 1 29 The commission of veterans affairs shall do the following: 1 30 1. Develop and issue for response requests for proposals 1 31 for storing information and data concerning the military 1 32 service records of Iowa veterans, and other information the 1 33 commission deems appropriate, upon microfilm, electronic 1 34 computer, or data processing equipment, and for proposals for 1 35 the purchase of the equipment necessary to store the records 2 1 and information. The commission shall also make every 2 2 reasonable effort to obtain federal funding for the storing of 2 3 information and data and the purchase of equipment as provided 2 4 in this subsection. The commission shall deliver a written 2 5 report on all proposals submitted in response to the requests 2 6 for proposals along with the commission's recommendations to 2 7 the general assembly not later than January 1, 1996. 2 8 2. Study the costs of training provided to executive 2 9 directors of county commissions of veteran affairs under 2 10 subsection 12. The commission shall submit a report of its 2 11 findings and recommendations to the general assembly by 2 12 January 1, 1996. 2 13 Sec. 6. EFFECTIVE DATE.
