1 3 GARMAN, VAN FOSSEN, SUKUP, THOMSON, WARNSTADT,
1 4 TYRRELL, KREMER, HEATON, BRADLEY, CHURCHILL, SIEGRIST,
1 5 HALVORSON, SCHULTE, RANTS, TEIG, LAMBERTI,
1 6 HAMMITT BARRY, ARNOLD, GRIES, DAGGETT, BAKER, DINKLA,
1 7 and NUTT
1 8 A House Concurrent Resolution supporting Iowa military
1 9 personnel in the Bosnian peacekeeping mission.
1 10 WHEREAS, President Bill Clinton ordered American
1 11 military personnel into the Bosnian area after a
1 12 negotiated peace treaty was signed in December 1995;
1 13 and
1 14 WHEREAS, Iowans in the National Guard and Army
1 15 Reserves have a long-standing history and tradition of
1 16 service to the United States at home and overseas; and
1 17 WHEREAS, the Iowa military personnel in the Bosnian
1 18 peacekeeping mission represent the citizens of Iowa,
1 19 and the wives, husbands, children, parents, and
1 20 friends they have left behind; and
1 21 WHEREAS, Iowa's military personnel have taken with
1 22 them the hopes, the hearts, and the respect of the
1 23 citizens of Iowa; and
1 24 WHEREAS, Iowa's military personnel have taken with
1 25 them the ideals this country was founded upon and
1 26 which have made it strong, the love of freedom, the
1 27 duty to help those in need, and the responsibility to
1 28 act with honor in the face of infamy; NOW THEREFORE,
1 29 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, THE
1 30 SENATE CONCURRING, That even though the citizens of
2 1 Iowa may have differing opinions about the
2 2 peacekeeping mission in the Bosnian area, all
2 3 recognize and appreciate the sacrifices of the
2 4 military men and women associated with the Bosnian
2 5 mission, look forward to their safe return, and honor
2 6 and support them in the difficult peacekeeping tasks
2 7 ahead.
2 8 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Chief Clerk of the
2 9 House of Representatives send a copy of this
2 10 Resolution to Major General Warren G. Lawson, Iowa
2 11 National Guard, and Brigadier General Thomas Bruner,
2 12 Third Corps Support Command, who will distribute
2 13 copies to Iowa's military personnel associated with
2 14 the Bosnian peacekeeping mission and to their closest
2 15 family member.
