1 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION NO.
1 2 BY MERTZ, BELL, and FREVERT
1 3 A Resolution honoring the City of Whittemore on its
1 4 quasquicentennial year.
1 5 WHEREAS, the City of Whittemore of Kossuth County,
1 6 first platted in 1878, is celebrating its 125th
1 7 anniversary; and
1 8 WHEREAS, Whittemore's first settlers were tough and
1 9 hardworking, establishing their homes despite a
1 10 disastrous grasshopper invasion, devastating
1 11 blizzards, and destructive fires; and
1 12 WHEREAS, the motto "Whittemore Cares More, Shares
1 13 More" exemplifies the community's strong moral values
1 14 and friendly down-to-earth citizens; and
1 15 WHEREAS, the economic development in Whittemore is
1 16 based in such dynamic businesses as Elbert Chevrolet,
1 17 Steier Ag Aviation, West Bend Elevator, Schmitt
1 18 Hardware, and the Whittemore Golf Club; and
1 19 WHEREAS, the City of Whittemore will celebrate its
1 20 125th anniversary June 27-29, 2003, with a parade,
1 21 antique car show, beard judging contest, softball
1 22 tournament, and street dance; NOW THEREFORE,
1 23 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
1 24 That the House of Representatives recognize and extend
1 25 its congratulations to the City of Whittemore on its
1 26 quasquicentennial and for its 125 years of service to
1 27 its citizens and to the State of Iowa; and
1 28 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That an official copy of
1 29 this Resolution be prepared and presented to the
1 30 Honorable Daniel Elbert, Mayor of the City of
2 1 Whittemore.
