The House met pursuant to adjournment at 1:07 p.m., Speaker
Siegrist in the chair.

Prayer was offered by Bishop Gregory Palmer, Bishop of the
United Methodist Church, Des Moines. He is the guest of
Representatives Janet Petersen of Polk County and Steve Richardson
of Warren County.

The Journal of Friday, March 9, 2001 was approved.

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by students from Perkins
Elementary School in Des Moines. They were accompanied by their
teacher, Jim Guttau. They were the guests of the Honorable Donna
Barry, state representative from Harrison County and the Honorable
Janet Petersen, state representative from Polk County.

INTRODUCTION OF BILLS

House File 578, by committee on education, a bill for an act
including specified foreign exchange pupils in the actual enrollment
of a school district, and providing an effective date.

Read first time and placed on the calendar.

House File 579, by committee on state government, a bill for an
act relating to the administration and management of the
department of personnel.

Read first time and placed on the calendar.

House File 580, by committee on state government, a bill for an
act providing for the regulation of fire protection systems and
personnel, making an appropriation, and providing civil and criminal
penalties.
