1 2 paragraph 3, Code 2001, is amended to read as follows:
1 3 The rules shall provide that when the curriculum is taught
1 4 by an appropriately licensed teacher at the location at which
1 5 the telecommunications originates, the curriculum received at
1 6 a remote site shall be under the supervision of a licensed
1 7 teacher. The licensed teacher at the originating site may
1 8 provide supervision of students at a remote site or the school
1 9 district in which the remote site is located may provide for
1 10 supervision at the remote site if the school district deems it
1 11 necessary or if requested to do so by the licensed teacher at
1 12 the originating site. For the purposes of this subsection,
1 13 "supervision" means that the curriculum is monitored by a
1 14 licensed teacher and the teacher is accessible to the students
1 15 receiving the curriculum by means of telecommunications.
1 16 EXPLANATION
1 17 This bill provides that the supervision of kindergarten
1 18 through grade 12 students receiving curriculum via the Iowa
1 19 communications network may be provided by the licensed teacher
1 20 at the originating site, or may be provided by the school
1 21 district receiving the curriculum if the district decides it
1 22 is advisable or if the originating site teacher requests it.
