1 1 Section 1. NEW SECTION. 1C.12 PRAYER DAY.
1 2 The governor of this state is hereby authorized and
1 3 requested to issue annually a proclamation designating the
1 4 third day of May as "Prayer Day" and calling upon the citizens
1 5 of Iowa to reflect on the role of prayer as a fundamental part
1 6 of the nation's heritage and to recognize that there can be a
1 7 unifying power when citizens from diverse religious
1 8 backgrounds seek divine guidance.
1 9 EXPLANATION
1 10 This bill authorizes and requests the governor to issue an
1 11 annual proclamation designating May 3 as "Prayer Day" and
1 12 calling upon the state's citizens to reflect on the role of
1 13 prayer in our nation's heritage and to recognize that prayer
1 14 can be a unifying force among citizens of diverse religious
1 15 backgrounds.
