PAG LIN 1 1 Section 1. Section 481A.48, Code 2001, is amended by 1 2 adding the following new paragraph: 1 3 NEW UNNUMBERED PARAGRAPH. The commission shall establish 1 4 one or more rifle seasons for hunting deer as separate firearm 1 5 seasons or to coincide with one or more other firearm deer 1 6 hunting seasons. The commission shall specify, by rule, the 1 7 calibers of rifles which shall be allowed for deer hunting. 1 8 The rules may also limit the types of ammunition. A person 1 9 possessing a prohibited rifle or prohibited type of ammunition 1 10 while hunting deer commits a scheduled violation under section 1 11 805.8, subsection 5, paragraph "h". 1 12 Sec. 2. Section 805.8, subsection 5, paragraph h, Code 1 13 2001, is amended by adding the following new subparagraph: 1 14 NEW SUBPARAGRAPH. (6) Possession of a prohibited rifle or 1 15 prohibited ammunition while hunting deer, the scheduled fine 1 16 is one hundred dollars. If the violation includes a 1 17 prohibited rifle and prohibited ammunition, the scheduled fine 1 18 is two hundred dollars. 1 19 EXPLANATION 1 20 This bill directs the natural resource commission to 1 21 establish one or more rifle seasons for hunting deer which may 1 22 be a separate season or may coincide with one or more other 1 23 firearm deer hunting seasons. The commission, by rule, shall 1 24 specify the calibers of rifles which shall be allowed for deer 1 25 hunting. The commission rules may also limit the types of 1 26 ammunition. A person possessing a prohibited rifle or type of 1 27 ammunition while hunting deer commits a scheduled fine of 1 28 $100.
