1 1 SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. ___

1 3 A Concurrent Resolution requesting that the governor
1 4 annually designate the third week in the month of
1 5 October as Cultural Awareness Week.
1 6 WHEREAS, the people of Iowa celebrate the spirit of
1 7 diversity with harmony represented by the various
1 8 cultures that make up the fabric of the state of Iowa;
1 9 and
1 10 WHEREAS, many cultures have contributed to the rich
1 11 heritage of the state of Iowa; and
1 12 WHEREAS, the diversity of the people in this state
1 13 enhances Iowa's economic, political, and cultural
1 14 vitality; and
1 15 WHEREAS, it is important to take time to reflect on
1 16 the importance of Iowa's individual and collective
1 17 heritage; and
1 18 WHEREAS, it is important to teach the children of
1 19 Iowa tolerance and respect for the rich variety of
1 20 Iowa's people; NOW THEREFORE,
1 21 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, THE HOUSE OF
1 22 REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING, That the governor is
1 23 requested to annually proclaim the third week in the
1 24 month of October as Cultural Awareness Week, to
1 25 encourage the citizens of the state to reflect on the
1 26 many contributions of different cultures to the vigor
1 27 of the state, and to encourage the state's educators
1 28 to teach the children of Iowa that the people of Iowa
1 29 and the state of Iowa together are truly "many faces,
1 30 one state"; and
2 1 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That upon passage of this
2 2 Resolution, an official copy shall be transmitted to
2 3 the governor.
