1 1 Amend the amendment, S-3519, to House File 719, as
1 2 amended, passed, and reprinted by the House, as
1 3 follows:
1 4 #1. Page 1, by striking lines 19 through 21, and
1 5 inserting the following:
1 6 "# . Page 4, by striking lines 18 through 35 and
1 7 inserting the following: "the department of education
1 8 in continuing this initiative. Of the funds allocated
1 9 pursuant to this paragraph, $250,000 shall be
1 10 transferred to the legislative council to establish an
1 11 office of distance learning. The objective of the
1 12 office of distance learning shall be to establish the
1 13 state of Iowa as a distance learning center. The
1 14 legislative council shall be authorized to hire
1 15 individuals for office staffing positions, which
1 16 positions shall report to the legislative oversight
1 17 committee. The office of distance learning may
1 18 receive and utilize grants and other funds in addition
1 19 to amounts appropriated pursuant to this paragraph.
1 20 The office of distance learning shall identify and
1 21 facilitate distance learning technology and
1 22 applications between all interested agencies and
1 23 entities involved or potentially involved in distance
1 24 learning activities including, but not limited to, K-
1 25 12 schools, area education agencies, institutions of
1 26 higher learning, Iowa public television, the
1 27 department of education, the Iowa communications
1 28 network, the information technology department, and
1 29 military and private sector institutions or agencies.
1 30 Amounts which remain unallocated or unexpended at the
1 31 close of the fiscal year shall revert to the pooled
1 32 technology account for the support of technology
1 33 programs in the succeeding fiscal year.""
