1 1 Amend Senate File 342 as follows:
1 2 #1. Page 1, by inserting after line 7, the
1 3 following:
1 4 "Sec. . Section 53.2, unnumbered paragraph 1,
1 5 Code 2001, is amended to read as follows:
1 6 Any registered voter, under the circumstances
1 7 specified in section 53.1, may on any day, except
1 8 election day, and not more than seventy days prior to
1 9 the date of the election, apply in person for an
1 10 absentee ballot at the commissioner's office or at any
1 11 location designated by the commissioner, or make
1 12 written application to the commissioner for an
1 13 absentee ballot. However, for those elections in
1 14 which the commissioner directs the polls be opened at
1 15 noon pursuant to section 49.73, a voter may apply in
1 16 person for an absentee ballot at the commissioner's
1 17 office from eight a.m. until eleven a.m. on election
1 18 day. The state commissioner shall prescribe a form
1 19 for absentee ballot applications. However, if a
1 20 registered voter submits an application that includes
1 21 all of the information required in this section, the
1 22 prescribed form is not required. Absentee ballot
1 23 applications may include instructions to send the
1 24 application directly to the county commissioner of
1 25 elections. However, no absentee ballot application
1 26 shall be preaddressed or printed with instructions to
1 27 send the applications to anyone other than the
1 28 appropriate commissioner."
1 29 #2. Title page, line 1, by inserting after the
1 30 word "Act" the following: "relating to the conduct of
1 31 elections by allowing absentee voting at the
1 32 commissioner's office on election day in certain
1 33 elections and by".
1 34 #3. By renumbering as necessary.
