PAG LIN 1 1 Section 1. Section 280.4, subsection 3, Code 2001, is 1 2 amended to read as follows: 1 3 3. In order to provide funds for the excess costs of 1 4 instruction of limited English proficient students above the 1 5 costs of instruction of pupils in a regular curriculum, 1 6 students identified as limited English proficient shall be 1 7 assigned an additional weighting of twenty-two hundredths, and 1 8 that weighting shall be included in the weighted enrollment of 1 9 the school district of residence for a period not exceeding 1 10 three years. However, the school budget review committee may 1 11 grant supplemental aid or modified allowable growth to a 1 12 school district to continue funding a program for students 1 13 after the expiration of the three-year period.The school1 14budget review committee shall calculate the additional amount1 15for the weighting to the nearest one-hundredth of one percent1 16so that to the extent possible the moneys generated by the1 17weighting will be equivalent to the moneys generated by the1 18two-tenths weighting provided prior to July 2, 1991.1 19 EXPLANATION 1 20 This bill provides for an additional weighting for students 1 21 identified as limited English proficient of twenty-two 1 22 hundredths. The bill deletes the previous provision that the 1 23 additional weighting shall be calculated by the school budget 1 24 review committee to the nearest one-hundredth of 1 percent so 1 25 that to the extent possible the moneys generated by the 1 26 weighting will be equivalent to the moneys generated by the 1 27 two-tenths weighting provided prior to July 2, 1991. 1 28 LSB 6771YC 79 1 29 rn/pj/5
