  1  1                 HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. __
  1  2             BY  SIEGRIST, RANTS, and MYERS
  1  3 A Resolution honoring Virginia Rowen upon her
  1  4    retirement and recognizing her many contributions
  1  5    to the House of Representatives and the General
  1  6    Assembly.
  1  7    WHEREAS, Virginia Rowen is retiring this year after
  1  8 serving the House of Representatives and the General
  1  9 Assembly for 26 years; and
  1 10    WHEREAS, Virginia Rowen began her career with the
  1 11 House of Representatives as a Supply Clerk in 1976,
  1 12 then worked as a Member's Secretary beginning in 1977,
  1 13 and became Supervisor of Secretaries in 1983; and
  1 14    WHEREAS, as Supervisor of Secretaries, Virginia
  1 15 Rowen taught countless employees of the House of
  1 16 Representatives the old Mapper Computer System which
  1 17 was the only system available in the 1980s; and
  1 18    WHEREAS, Virginia Rowen helped create the popular
  1 19 Tilde Awards Banquet for the secretaries and staff
  1 20 that was held each spring just before adjournment, and
  1 21 was the first recipient of the annual Tilde Award; and
  1 22    WHEREAS, Virginia Rowen became a computer trainer
  1 23 as well as continuing as Supervisor of Secretaries for
  1 24 the House of Representatives in 1989 and joined the
  1 25 Legislative Computer Support Bureau as a Computer
  1 26 System Analyst in 1993; and
  1 27    WHEREAS, Virginia Rowen's computer expertise was
  1 28 matched only by her patience and professionalism in
  1 29 assisting legislative staff with any and all computer
  1 30 needs; and
  2  1    WHEREAS, Virginia Rowen was not only a teacher but
  2  2 also a counselor to many secretaries and
  2  3 representatives and she was always available to help
  2  4 with any problem at her desk in the hallway behind the
  2  5 chamber of the House of Representatives; and
  2  6    WHEREAS, Virginia Rowen is also the loving wife of
  2  7 Donald Rowen, the devoted mother of five children, and
  2  8 the proud grandmother of eight grandchildren; NOW
  2  9 THEREFORE,
  2 10    BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
  2 11 That the House of Representatives honors Virginia
  2 12 Rowen for her many years of service to the House of
  2 13 Representatives, to the General Assembly, and to the
  2 14 citizens of Iowa; and
  2 15    BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the House of
  2 16 Representatives bids Virginia Rowen a fond farewell
  2 17 and wishes her the very best in the years ahead; and
  2 18    BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That an official copy of
  2 19 this Resolution be prepared and presented to Virginia
  2 20 Rowen.
