1 2 BY O'BRIEN
1 3 A Resolution honoring the Des Moines Area Community College
1 4 Men's Basketball Team.
1 5 WHEREAS, the fans of the Des Moines Area Community
1 6 College (DMACC) Boone Bears and the citizens of Iowa
1 7 are greatly pleased that the DMACC Men's Basketball
1 8 Team had a spectacular regular season leading to their
1 9 capture of the Iowa Division II Junior College
1 10 Athletic Association Conference Championship and the
1 11 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA)
1 12 Region XI Championship; and
1 13 WHEREAS, the DMACC Men's Basketball Team made its
1 14 fans and all Iowans proud by also advancing to the
1 15 NJCAA Division II National Tournament in Danville,
1 16 Illinois, during the week of March 20-23, 2002, where
1 17 the Boone Bears advanced through two rounds,
1 18 eventually placing fourth in the nation; and
1 19 WHEREAS, individual athletes on the team have been
1 20 honored by being named to the Iowa Community College
1 21 Athletic Conference All-Conference First Team, All-
1 22 Conference Second Team, and have received Honorable
1 23 Mention for the All-Conference Team; and
1 24 WHEREAS, Head Coach Orv Salmon, in only his second
1 25 year at DMACC, led his team to a 31-6 record, making
1 26 his career record at DMACC 60-10; and
1 27 WHEREAS, the DMACC Men's Basketball Team has proven
1 28 to be an outstanding blend of talented men who
1 29 individually, and as a team, are an asset to their
1 30 school, their community, and to all of Iowa; NOW
2 1 THEREFORE,
2 2 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
2 3 That the House of Representatives congratulates Coach
2 4 Orv Salmon and the Des Moines Area Community College
2 5 Men's Basketball Team on their successful season and
2 6 thanks them for the honor and excitement they brought
2 7 to the State of Iowa.
2 8 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That upon passage, the
2 9 Chief Clerk of the House of Representatives shall
2 10 cause an official copy of this Resolution to be
2 11 prepared for presentation to Coach Orv Salmon and the
2 12 Des Moines Area Community College Men's Basketball
2 13 Team.
