  1  3              GREIMANN, MASCHER, and MURPHY
  1  4 A Resolution honoring Iowa high school seniors
  1  5    Elizabeth Bastiaans, Tony Cyr, Brandon Day,
  1  6    Alison Lentz, Claudia Lutz, Patrick Swieskowski,
  1  7    Emily Trump, Elizabeth Zeitler, and Michael Zhu
  1  8    for achieving the highest possible score on the
  1  9    Scholastic Assessment Test.
  1 10    WHEREAS, the citizens of Iowa are gratified and
  1 11 proud that nine Iowa high school seniors, Elizabeth
  1 12 Bastiaans, Tony Cyr, Brandon Day, Alison Lentz,
  1 13 Claudia Lutz, Patrick Swieskowski, Emily Trump,
  1 14 Elizabeth Zeitler, and Michael Zhu achieved the
  1 15 highest possible score of 1,600 on the Scholastic
  1 16 Assessment Test; and
  1 17    WHEREAS, last year only 586 out of 1.3 million
  1 18 students in the United States who took the Scholastic
  1 19 Assessment Test received a score of 1,600; and
  1 20    WHEREAS, Elizabeth Bastiaans, a senior at Ames High
  1 21 School, and the daughter of Glenn and Mary Jane
  1 22 Bastiaans of Ames, is interested in scientific
  1 23 research, environmental issues, and fantasy writing
  1 24 and has participated on her high school's Speech and
  1 25 Quiz Bowl Teams and in the Ames High School Orchestra;
  1 26 and
  1 27    WHEREAS, Tony Cyr, a senior at Linn-Mar High School
  1 28 and the son of Brian and Sue Cyr of Cedar Rapids,
  1 29 plans to attend Iowa State University with a double
  1 30 major in chemical engineering and French, and enjoys
  2  1 drawing, playing soccer, disc Frisbee, and Ultimate
  2  2 Frisbee, playing the guitar, and sits on the Youth
  2  3 Power Board of the Greater Cedar Rapids Community
  2  4 Foundation; and
  2  5    WHEREAS, Brandon Day, a senior at Urbandale High
  2  6 School, and the son of Dan and Linda Young of
  2  7 Urbandale, plans to study engineering at Iowa State
  2  8 University and is active in Academic Decathlon and
  2  9 other knowledge quiz activities; and
  2 10    WHEREAS, Alison Lentz, a senior at Walnut Ridge
  2 11 Baptist Academy in Waterloo, and the daughter of Bob
  2 12 and Joan Lentz of Cedar Falls, is active in National
  2 13 Honor Society activities, band, and her church; and
  2 14    WHEREAS, Claudia Lutz, a senior at West High School
  2 15 in Iowa City, and the daughter of Martha and Charles
  2 16 Lutz of Iowa City, plans to attend Cornell University
  2 17 in Ithaca, New York, majoring in biology and is a
  2 18 member of the book, math, and Scrabble clubs at West
  2 19 High; and
  2 20    WHEREAS, Patrick Swieskowski, a senior at Des
  2 21 Moines Roosevelt High School, and the son of David and
  2 22 Dianne Swieskowski of Des Moines, is interested in
  2 23 studying computer science and has been accepted at
  2 24 Harvard University, is currently taking a class at
  2 25 Drake University, and enjoys mountain biking, computer
  2 26 programming, and debate; and
  2 27    WHEREAS, Emily Trump, a senior at Des Moines Hoover
  2 28 High School, and the daughter of Richard and Patricia
  2 29 Trump of Des Moines, plans to study psychology and is
  2 30 active in choir, piano, and church youth group; and
  3  1    WHEREAS, Elizabeth Zeitler, a senior at City High
  3  2 School in Iowa City, and the daughter of Rod and Deb
  3  3 Zeitler of Iowa City, plans to study urban planning or
  3  4 environmental studies and is involved in the City High
  3  5 Orchestra, Pruecil School of Music, City High Math
  3  6 Club, and is a Camp Wapsi counselor; and
  3  7    WHEREAS, Michael Zhu, a senior at Dubuque Hempstead
  3  8 High School, and the son of Lisheng Zhu and Xin Wu of
  3  9 Dubuque, was born in China, plans to attend the
  3 10 Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and initiated a
  3 11 peer tutoring program for students in math; NOW
  3 12 THEREFORE,
  3 13    BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
  3 14 That the House of Representatives congratulates
  3 15 Elizabeth Bastiaans, Tony Cyr, Brandon Day, Alison
  3 16 Lentz, Claudia Lutz, Patrick Swieskowski, Emily Trump,
  3 17 Elizabeth Zeitler, and Michael Zhu on their
  3 18 achievement of the highest possible score of 1,600 on
  3 19 the Scholastic Assessment Test and wishes them every
  3 20 success in all of their future endeavors.
  3 21    BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That, upon adoption, the
  3 22 Chief Clerk of the House of Representatives shall
  3 23 prepare a copy of this Resolution for presentation to
  3 24 Elizabeth Bastiaans, Tony Cyr, Brandon Day, Alison
  3 25 Lentz, Claudia Lutz, Patrick Swieskowski, Emily Trump,
  3 26 Elizabeth Zeitler, and Michael Zhu.
