  1  2      BY  WARNSTADT, MURPHY, STEVENS, WITT, COHOON,
  1  3       D. TAYLOR, TREMMEL, MERTZ, O'BRIEN, SMITH,
  1  4      SCHERRMAN, ATTEBERRY, MAY, T. TAYLOR, MYERS,
  1  5     BUKTA, GREIMANN, KUHN, SENG, REYNOLDS, DOTZLER,
  1  6                 RICHARDSON, and CONNORS
  1  7 A Resolution requesting that the Governor of Iowa
  1  8    proclaim the month of May as Military Appreciation
  1  9    Month.
  1 10    WHEREAS, the freedom and security that citizens of
  1 11 the United States enjoy today are direct results of
  1 12 the vigilance of the United States Armed Forces; and
  1 13    WHEREAS, recognizing contributions made by members
  1 14 of the United States Armed Forces will increase
  1 15 national awareness of the sacrifices that such members
  1 16 have made to preserve the freedoms and liberties that
  1 17 enrich this nation; and
  1 18    WHEREAS, it is important to preserve and foster
  1 19 admiration and respect for the service provided by
  1 20 members of the United States Armed Forces; and
  1 21    WHEREAS, it is vital for youth in the United States
  1 22 to understand that the service provided by members of
  1 23 the United States Armed Forces has secured and
  1 24 protected the freedoms that United States citizens
  1 25 enjoy today; and
  1 26    WHEREAS, recognizing the unfailing support that
  1 27 families of members of the United States Armed Forces
  1 28 have provided to such members during their service and
  1 29 how such support strengthens the vitality of our
  1 30 nation is important; and
  2  1    WHEREAS, recognizing the role that the United
  2  2 States Armed Forces play in maintaining the military
  2  3 superiority of the United States and in contributing
  2  4 to world peace will increase awareness of all
  2  5 contributions made by such Armed Forces; and
  2  6    WHEREAS, it is appropriate to recognize the
  2  7 importance of maintaining a strong, equipped, well-
  2  8 educated, well-trained military for the United States
  2  9 to safeguard freedoms, humanitarianism, and
  2 10 peacekeeping efforts around the world; and
  2 11    WHEREAS, it is proper to foster and cultivate the
  2 12 honor and pride that citizens of the United States
  2 13 feel toward members of the United States Armed Forces
  2 14 for the protection and service that such members
  2 15 provide; and
  2 16    WHEREAS, recognizing the many sacrifices made by
  2 17 members of the United Sates Armed Forces is important
  2 18 to maintain the morale of the troops; and
  2 19    WHEREAS, it is proper to recognize and honor the
  2 20 dedication and commitment of members of the United
  2 21 States Armed Forces, and to show appreciation for all
  2 22 contributions made by such members since the inception
  2 23 of such Armed Forces; NOW THEREFORE,
  2 24    BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
  2 25 That the House of Representatives requests that the
  2 26 Governor of Iowa issue each year a proclamation
  2 27 designating May as National Military Appreciation
  2 28 Month, and call on the people of Iowa to honor the
  2 29 dedicated service provided by the members of the
  2 30 United States Armed Forces, and to observe the month
  3  1 with appropriate ceremonies and activities.
