  1 16 A Resolution honoring the Drake Women's Basketball Team.
  1 17    WHEREAS, the fans of Drake University and the
  1 18 citizens of Iowa are greatly pleased that the Drake
  1 19 Women's Basketball Team had a spectacular season in
  1 20 compiling a 23-7 record and its fifth consecutive 20-
  1 21 or-more-victories season; and
  1 22    WHEREAS, the Drake Women's Basketball Team made its
  1 23 fans and all Iowans proud by sharing the Missouri
  1 24 Valley Conference regular season title, and by
  1 25 receiving its first-ever at-large bid to the Women's
  1 26 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA)
  1 27 Tournament, making its fourth NCAA appearance in five
  1 28 years; and
  1 29    WHEREAS, the Drake Women's Basketball Team overcame
  1 30 adversity early in the season when two players were
  2  1 diagnosed with life-threatening medical conditions and
  2  2 were forced to sit out the season; and
  2  3    WHEREAS, individual athletes on the team have been
  2  4 honored by being named to the All-Missouri Valley
  2  5 Conference Team, the Missouri Valley Conference All-
  2  6 Freshman Team, and the Missouri Valley Conference All-
  2  7 Tournament Team; and
  2  8    WHEREAS, the citizens of Iowa recognize the
  2  9 academic accomplishments of the Drake Women's
  2 10 Basketball Team for having a cumulative grade point
  2 11 average of 3.3, and having two Bulldogs named to the
  2 12 2001 Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete Team
  2 13 and one named to the Verizon Academic All-District
  2 14 Team; and
  2 15    WHEREAS, the citizens of Iowa applaud Drake Women's
  2 16 Basketball Head Coach Lisa Stone for being the first
  2 17 rookie coach ever to be named the Missouri Valley
  2 18 Conference Coach of the Year, and who, by winning 23
  2 19 games, extended the league record for league wins and
  2 20 overall wins by a first-year Missouri Valley
  2 21 Conference coach; NOW THEREFORE,
  2 22    BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
  2 23 That the House of Representatives congratulates Coach
  2 24 Lisa Stone and the Drake Women's Basketball Team on
  2 25 their successful season and thanks them for the honor
  2 26 and excitement they brought to the State of Iowa.
