PAG LIN 1 1 Section 1. Section 322.5, subsection 5, Code 2001, is 1 2 amended to read as follows: 1 3 5. A manufacturer, distributor, or dealer may, upon 1 4 receipt of a temporary permit approved by the department, 1 5 display new ambulances, new fire vehicles, and new rescue 1 6 vehicles for educational purposes only at vehicle shows and 1 7 vehicle exhibitions conducted for the express purpose of 1 8 educating fire and rescue personnel in new technology and 1 9 techniques for fire fighting and rescue efforts. Application 1 10 for temporary permits shall be made upon forms provided by the 1 11 department and shall be accompanied by a ten-dollar permit 1 12 fee. Permits shall be issued for a single show or exhibition, 1 13 not to exceed five consecutive days. A permit under this 1 14 subsection may be issued to a motor vehicle dealer not 1 15 licensed in this state only if the state in which the motor 1 16 vehicle dealer is licensed allows motor vehicle dealers 1 17 licensed in this state to display the vehicles described in 1 18 this subsection in that state in the manner described in this 1 19 subsection. A permit under this subsection may be issued to a 1 20 manufacturer or distributor who is not a resident of this 1 21 state only if the state in which the manufacturer or 1 22 distributor is a resident allows manufacturers and 1 23 distributors who are residents of this state to display the 1 24 vehicles described in this subsection in that state in the 1 25 manner described in this subsection. 1 26 EXPLANATION 1 27 This bill modifies a permit provision in Code section 322.5 1 28 to provide that temporary permits for the display of new 1 29 ambulances, new fire vehicles, and new rescue vehicles at 1 30 vehicle shows and exhibitions conducted for the purpose of 1 31 educating fire and rescue personnel may only be issued by the 1 32 state department of transportation to motor vehicle dealers 1 33 not licensed in this state if the state in which the motor 1 34 vehicle dealer is licensed allows motor vehicle dealers 1 35 licensed in Iowa to display such vehicles in the other state 2 1 in the same manner. The bill also provides that such permits 2 2 may only be issued to a nonresident manufacturer or 2 3 distributor if the state in which the manufacturer or 2 4 distributor is a resident allows a manufacturer or distributor 2 5 who is a resident of Iowa to display the vehicles in the other 2 6 state in the same manner. 2 7 LSB 2761YH 79 2 8 nh/cf/24.1
