1 1 Section 1. Section 99D.22, subsection 2, paragraph b, Code
1 2 2001, is amended by adding the following new subparagraph:
1 3 NEW SUBPARAGRAPH. (4) Continuous residency for at least
1 4 one hundred eighty days for an Iowa-foaled brood mare before
1 5 the foal is dropped.
1 6 Sec. 2. Section 99D.22, subsection 2, Code 2001, is
1 7 amended by adding the following new paragraph after paragraph
1 8 b:
1 9 NEW PARAGRAPH. bb. A brood mare producing Iowa-foaled
1 10 horses that are eligible for Iowa-foal supplemental winnings
1 11 as provided in this section must be bred to an Iowa registered
1 12 stallion every other year.
1 13 EXPLANATION
1 14 This bill provides that an Iowa-foaled brood mare must
1 15 reside in the state continuously for 180 days before a foal is
1 16 dropped if the foal is to be eligible for supplemental
1 17 winnings as an Iowa-foaled racehorse.
1 18 The bill also provides that a brood mare producing Iowa-
1 19 foaled horses that are eligible for Iowa-foal supplemental
1 20 winnings from the Iowa horse and dog breeders fund must be
1 21 bred to an Iowa registered stallion every other year.
