1 1 Section 1. Section 249A.3, Code 2001, is amended by adding
1 2 the following new subsections:
1 3 NEW SUBSECTION. 4A. The department shall establish
1 4 presumptive eligibility under the medical assistance program
1 5 for a child who is under nineteen years of age. A
1 6 determination of presumptive eligibility may be made only once
1 7 in a twelve-month period.
1 8 NEW SUBSECTION. 4B. The department shall establish
1 9 twelve-month continuous eligibility under the medical
1 10 assistance program for a child under nineteen years of age
1 11 whose eligibility is not based on eligibility under the
1 12 medically needy category or on presumptive eligibility.
1 13 EXPLANATION
1 14 This bill directs the department of human services to
1 15 provide for presumptive eligibility under the medical
1 16 assistance (Medicaid) program for children under 19 years of
1 17 age. The presumptive eligibility determination is to be made
1 18 only once in a 12-month period. Additionally, the bill
1 19 directs the department of human services to provide for 12-
1 20 month continuous eligibility under the medical assistance
1 21 (Medicaid) program if the child's eligibility is not based on
1 22 the medically needy program category or on presumptive
1 23 eligibility.
