  1 19 A Concurrent Resolution marking the completion of the
  1 20    exterior restoration of the Iowa State Capitol and
  1 21    honoring the contractors, subcontractors, artisans,
  1 22    skilled workers, and state employees who contributed
  1 23    to the effort to complete the restoration.
  1 24    WHEREAS, the Iowa State Capitol has long been a
  1 25 source of pride for the citizens of Iowa since its
  1 26 dedication in 1884; and
  1 27    WHEREAS, the beautifully ornate Iowa State Capitol
  1 28 is a shining landmark for all of Iowa and is listed in
  1 29 the National Register of Historic Places; and
  1 30    WHEREAS, when the exterior of this magnificent
  2  1 building began to crumble, citizens of the state
  2  2 demanded that the Capitol be restored to its original
  2  3 beauty and grace; and
  2  4    WHEREAS, pursuant to an appropriation made by the
  2  5 Iowa General Assembly in 1983, the Department of
  2  6 General Services commenced the exterior restoration of
  2  7 the Iowa State Capitol; and
  2  8    WHEREAS, the exterior restoration of the Iowa State
  2  9 Capitol included replacement of the eroding sandstone,
  2 10 repair of the small copper-covered domes at each
  2 11 corner of the building, repair and replacement of
  2 12 wooden window sashes, and regilding of the magnificent
  2 13 dome with gold leaf; and
  2 14    WHEREAS, the following contractors and
  2 15 subcontractors, and persons employed thereby,
  2 16 dedicated much time and effort toward restoring the
  2 17 exterior of the Capitol:  Baker Electric Inc.; Bybee
  2 18 Stone; Color Inc.; Conrad Schmidt Studios Inc.;
  2 19 EverGreene Painting Studios Inc.; Forman Ford Glass
  2 20 Co.; Forrest & Associates Inc.; Gardner Sandblasting &
  2 21 Painting Inc.; Iowa Scaffold Co. Inc.; Johnson Machine
  2 22 Works Inc.; Ken Kenoyer Caulking Co.; Neumann Brothers
  2 23 Inc.; Proctor Mechanical Corp.; Seedorff Masonry Inc.;
  2 24 Sheet Metal Workers; Taylor Ball; Two Rivers Glass and
  2 25 Door Inc.; Weatherguard Service Inc.; Wood Roofing
  2 26 Co.; and Woodcraft Architectural Millwork; and
  2 27    WHEREAS, several hundred artisans and skilled
  2 28 workers considered their roles in the Capitol
  2 29 restoration as the crowning achievement of their
  2 30 careers and devoted many years of their lives to
  3  1 returning the magnificent State Capitol to its
  3  2 original glory; and
  3  3    WHEREAS, the safety of the artisans and workers was
  3  4 always important to the State of Iowa and to the
  3  5 contractors and subcontractors and the importance of
  3  6 using safe procedures meant that during the period
  3  7 between 1983 and 2001, no serious injuries were
  3  8 reported; and
  3  9    WHEREAS, many state employees in the legislative
  3 10 and executive branches proudly devoted significant
  3 11 time and effort to completing the exterior restoration
  3 12 of the building; and
  3 13    WHEREAS, the exterior restoration of the Iowa State
  3 14 Capitol will be completed in 2001; NOW THEREFORE,
  3 15    BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, THE
  3 16 SENATE CONCURRING, That the Iowa General Assembly
  3 17 proudly marks the celebrated completion of the
  3 18 exterior restoration of the Iowa State Capitol in 2001
  3 19 and honors all persons who contributed their time and
  3 20 effort to the successful restoration of the building's
  3 21 exterior; and
  3 22    BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this
  3 23 Resolution be made available to the artisans and
  3 24 skilled workers who labored to restore the exterior of
  3 25 the Iowa State Capitol.
