  1  1    Amend House File 2549 as follows:
  1  2    #1.  Page 2, line 24, by inserting after the word
  1  3 "subsections" the following:  "1 through".
  1  4    #2.  Page 2, by inserting after line 25 the
  1  5 following:
  1  6    "1.  "Beginning teacher" means an individual
  1  7 serving under an initial provisional license, issued
  1  8 by the board of educational examiners under chapter
  1  9 272, who is assuming a position as a classroom
  1 10 teacher.  For purposes of the beginning teacher
  1 11 mentoring and induction program created pursuant to
  1 12 section 284.5, "beginning teacher" also includes
  1 13 preschool teachers who are licensed by the board of
  1 14 educational examiners under chapter 272 and are
  1 15 employed by a school district or area education
  1 16 agency.
  1 17    2.  "Classroom teacher" means an individual who
  1 18 holds a valid practitioner's license and who is
  1 19 employed under a teaching contract with a school
  1 20 district or area education agency in this state issued
  1 21 by a board of directors under section 279.13 to
  1 22 provide classroom instruction to students, or as a
  1 23 preschool teacher."
  1 24    #3.  Page 3, line 11, by inserting after the word
  1 25 "specialist," the following:  "preschool teacher,".
  1 26    #4.  Page 10, by inserting after line 16 the
  1 27 following:
  1 28    "Sec.    .  STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT AND TEACHER QUALITY
  1 29 – SCHOOL NURSE INCLUSION PROPOSAL.  The department of
  1 30 education shall develop a proposal for including
  1 31 school nurses within the student achievement and
  1 32 teacher quality program.  The proposal shall address
  1 33 criteria for and evaluation of school nurses in
  1 34 accordance with the program; mentoring, career
  1 35 development, salaries and career levels for school
  1 36 nurses under the program; and the costs of including
  1 37 school nurses in each aspect of the program.  The
  1 38 department shall submit its proposal to the
  1 39 chairpersons and ranking members of the senate and
  1 40 house standing committees on education and the joint
  1 41 appropriations subcommittee on education by December
  1 42 15, 2002."
  1 43    #5.  By renumbering as necessary.
