Eighty-fifth Calendar Day - Fifty-third Session Day

Hall of the House of Representatives
Des Moines, Iowa, Monday, April 5, 1999
The House met pursuant to adjournment at 1:00 p.m., Speaker 
Corbett in the chair.
Prayer was offered by Reverend Tom Dettmer, pastor of Bethany 
Lutheran Church, Spencer.
The Journal of Thursday, April 1, 1999 was approved.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by the Newton High School A 
Cappella Choir.  They were the guests of the Honorable Paul Bell, 
state representative from Jasper County.
SPECIAL PRESENTATION
Prior to convening twenty-four select juniors and seniors from 
Newton High School, directed by Dina Else, performed before the 
House.  This group has received a Division I rating at state contests 
with a perfect score for the past two years.
The House rose and expressed its appreciation.
LEAVE OF ABSENCE
Leave of absence was granted as follows:
Garman of Story, until her arrival, on request of Siegrist of Pottawattamie. 
TEACHERS OF THE DAY
Representative Stevens of Dickinson presented to the House 
Donna Harris, teacher at Okoboji school.
