The House met pursuant to adjournment at 1:00 p.m., Speaker pro 
tempore Rants in the chair.
Prayer was offered by the Honorable Speaker pro tempore 
Christopher Rants, state representative from Woodbury County. 
The Journal of Thursday, March 4, 1999 was approved.
THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Speaker pro tempore Rants.
PETITION FILED
The following petition was received and placed on file:
By Brunkhorst of Bremer from forty-four Teamster's Local 650, 
retirees favoring support of House File 5, exempting pension income 
from state taxes and House File 6, exempting Social Security income 
from state taxes.
INTRODUCTION OF BILLS
House Joint Resolution 11, by Schrader, Dotzler, Reynolds, 
Connors, Taylor, Scherrman, Osterhaus, Kuhn, Burnett, O'Brien, 
Frevert, Bukta, May, Drees, Whitead, Falck, Kreiman, Ford, 
Mascher, Bell, Jochum, Foege, Huser, and Fallon, a joint resolution 
directing the Secretary of State to conduct a nonbinding election on 
Iowa's state motto to be held in conjunction with a statewide special 
election and providing an effective date. 
Read first time and referred to committee on state government.
