PAG LIN 1 1 SENATE FILE 2330 1 2 1 3 AN ACT 1 4 RELATING TO THE REGULATION OF CERTAIN LOW-SPEED VEHICLES 1 5 AND MAKING A PENALTY APPLICABLE. 1 6 1 7 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA: 1 8 1 9 Section 1. Section 321.1, Code Supplement 1999, is amended 1 10 by adding the following new subsection after subsection 36 and 1 11 renumbering subsection 36A: 1 12 NEW SUBSECTION. 36A. "Low-speed vehicle" means a motor 1 13 vehicle manufactured in compliance with the national highway 1 14 and traffic safety administration standards for low-speed 1 15 vehicles in 49 C.F.R. } 571.500. A low-speed vehicle which is 1 16 in compliance with the equipment requirements in 49 C.F.R. } 1 17 571.500 shall be deemed to be in compliance with all equipment 1 18 requirements of this chapter. 1 19 Sec. 2. Section 321.20, subsection 2, Code Supplement 1 20 1999, is amended to read as follows: 1 21 2. A description of the vehicle including, insofar as the 1 22hereinafterspecified data may exist with respect to a given 1 23 vehicle, the make, model, type of body, the number of 1 24 cylinders, the type of motor fuel used, the serial number of 1 25 the vehicle, manufacturer's identification number, the engine 1 26 or other number of the vehicle and whether new or used and if 1 27 a new vehicle the date of sale by the manufacturer or dealer 1 28 to the person intending to operate such vehicle. If the 1 29 vehicle is a new low-speed vehicle, the manufacturer's or 1 30 importer's certificate required to accompany the application 1 31 under subsection 4 shall certify that the vehicle was 1 32 manufactured in compliance with the national highway and 1 33 traffic safety administration standards for low-speed vehicles 1 34 in 49 C.F.R. } 571.500. 1 35 Sec. 3. Section 321.116, Code 1999, is amended to read as 2 1 follows: 2 2 321.116 ELECTRIC AUTOMOBILES. 2 3 For an electric motor vehicle the annual fee is twenty-five 2 4 dollars. However, if an electric motor vehicle is more than 2 5 five model years old the annual registration fee is fifteen 2 6 dollars. This section does not apply to low-speed vehicles 2 7 that are electric. 2 8 Sec. 4. NEW SECTION. 321.381A OPERATION OF LOW-SPEED 2 9 VEHICLES. 2 10 A low-speed vehicle shall not be operated on a street with 2 11 a posted speed limit greater than thirty-five miles per hour. 2 12 This section shall not prohibit a low-speed vehicle from 2 13 crossing a street with a posted speed limit greater than 2 14 thirty-five miles per hour. 2 15 2 16 2 17 2 18 MARY E.
