  1  4 PROVIDING FOR THE APPOINTMENT AND LENGTH OF TERMS FOR MEMBERS
  1  5    ADDED TO A HOSPITAL BOARD OF TRUSTEES.

  1  7 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:
  1  8 
  1  9    Section 1.  Section 392.6, unnumbered paragraph 2, Code
  1 10 Supplement 1999, is amended to read as follows:
  1 11    Cities maintaining an institution as provided for in this
  1 12 section which have a board of trustees consisting of three or
  1 13 five members may by ordinance increase the number of members
  1 14 to five or seven and.  The ordinance shall provide for the
  1 15 immediate appointment of one additional member in the
  1 16 expansion to a five-member board or two additional members in
  1 17 the expansion to a seven-member board the additional members
  1 18 necessary to establish a five-member or seven-member board and
  1 19 shall provide that, of the additional members added to the
  1 20 board by appointment, one-half of the additional members added
  1 21 shall serve until the next succeeding general or city
  1 22 election, and for the appointment of the one or two other the
  1 23 remaining additional members shall serve until the second
  1 24 succeeding general or city election.  The ordinance shall also
  1 25 provide that the determination of which election an appointed
  1 26 additional member shall be required to seek election be
  1 27 determined by lot.  Thereafter, the terms of office of such
  1 28 additional members shall be four years.  However, if a city
  1 29 has adopted an ordinance which increases the number of members
  1 30 of the board of trustees to five or seven members and the
  1 31 terms of office of four of the five members or six of the
  1 32 seven members end in the same year, the date of expiration of
  1 33 the term of one of the four members or two of the six members,
  1 34 to be determined by lot, shall be extended by an additional
  1 35 two years.
