PAG LIN 1 1 Section 1. Section 68B.22, subsection 4, paragraph i, Code 1 2 1999, is amended to read as follows: 1 3 i. Nonmonetary items with a value ofthreeten dollars or 1 4 less that are received from any one donor during one calendar 1 5 day. 1 6 Sec. 2. Section 68B.22, subsection 8, Code 1999, is 1 7 amended to read as follows: 1 8 8. Except as otherwise provided in subsection 4, an 1 9 organization or association which has as one of its purposes 1 10 the encouragement of the passage, defeat, introduction, or 1 11 modification of legislation shall not give and a member of the 1 12 general assembly shall not receive food, beverages, 1 13 registration, or scheduled entertainment with a per person 1 14 value in excess ofthreeten dollars. 1 15 EXPLANATION 1 16 This bill amends one of the exceptions in the Iowa gift law 1 17 to the prohibition against public officials and public 1 18 employees receiving gifts from restricted donors and makes a 1 19 conforming change in the dollar limitation on gifts of food, 1 20 drink, registration, or entertainment from certain other 1 21 persons. The exception currently provides that public 1 22 officials and public employees may accept nonmonetary gifts 1 23 from any one donor during one calendar day if the value of the 1 24 gift is $3 or less. The limitation currently restricts 1 25 organizations or associations which have as a purpose the 1 26 encouragement of the passage, defeat, introduction, or 1 27 modification of legislation from giving, and legislators from 1 28 receiving, food, beverages, registration, or scheduled 1 29 entertainment with a per person value exceeding $3. The bill 1 30 amends that exception and the limitation by raising the 1 31 maximum value of the gift that may be given and received 1 32 during one calendar day from $3 to $10. 1 33 LSB 1888SS 78 1 34 lh/jw/5
