  1  4 RELATING TO REFLECTIVE DEVICES ON SLOW-MOVING VEHICLES.

  1  6 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:
  1  7 
  1  8    Section 1.  Section 321.288, subsection 5, Code 1999, is
  1  9 amended to read as follows:
  1 10    5.  When approaching and passing a slow moving vehicle
  1 11 displaying a reflective device or alternative reflective
  1 12 device as provided by section 321.383.
  1 13    Sec. 2.  Section 321.383, subsection 2, Code 1999, is
  1 14 amended to read as follows:
  1 15    2.  When operated on a highway in this state at a speed of
  1 16 thirty miles per hour or less, every farm tractor, or tractor
  1 17 with towed equipment, self-propelled implement of husbandry,
  1 18 road construction or maintenance vehicle, road grader, horse-
  1 19 drawn vehicle, or any other vehicle principally designed for
  1 20 use off the highway and any such tractor, implement, vehicle,
  1 21 or grader when manufactured for sale or sold at retail after
  1 22 December 31, 1971, shall be identified with a reflective
  1 23 device in accordance with the standards of the American
  1 24 society of agricultural engineers; however, this provision
  1 25 shall not apply to such vehicles when traveling in any an
  1 26 escorted parade.  If a person operating a vehicle drawn by a
  1 27 horse or mule objects to using a reflective device that
  1 28 complies with the standards of the American society of
  1 29 agricultural engineers for religious reasons, the vehicle may
  1 30 be identified by an alternative reflective device that is in
  1 31 compliance with rules adopted by the department.  The
  1 32 reflective device or alternative reflective device shall be
  1 33 visible from the rear.  A vehicle other than those specified
  1 34 in this section shall not display a reflective device or an
  1 35 alternative reflective device.  On vehicles operating at
  2  1 speeds above thirty miles per hour, the reflective device or
  2  2 alternative reflective device shall be removed or hidden from
  2  3 view.
