1 1 Section 1. Section 136A.6, Code 1999, is amended to read
1 2 as follows:
1 3 136A.6 CENTRAL REGISTRY – CONFIDENTIALITY.
1 4 The birth defects institute may maintain a central registry
1 5 to collect and store report data to facilitate the compiling
1 6 of statistical information on the causes, treatment,
1 7 prevention, and cure of genetic disorders and birth defects.
1 8 Identifying information shall remain confidential pursuant to
1 9 section 22.7, subsection 2. The birth defects listed on the
1 10 registry shall include infants diagnosed with obstetrical
1 11 brachial plexus palsy. Reporting procedures and diagnostic
1 12 criteria shall be established by the department of public
1 13 health by rule.
1 14 EXPLANATION
1 15 This bill provides for the placement of infants diagnosed
1 16 with obstetrical brachial plexus palsy on the central registry
1 17 maintained by the birth defects institute pursuant to Code
1 18 section 136A.6, and provides that reporting procedures and
1 19 diagnostic criteria will be established by the department of
1 20 public health by rule.
