PAG LIN 1 1 Section 1. Section 481A.92, unnumbered paragraph 1, Code 1 2 1999, is amended to read as follows: 1 3Except as otherwise provided in this chapter aA person 1 4 shall not use or attempt to use colony traps in taking, 1 5 capturing, trapping, or killing any game or fur-bearing 1 6 animals except muskrats as determined by rule of the 1 7 commission. Box traps capable of capturing more than one game 1 8 or fur-bearing animal at each setting are prohibited. A valid 1 9 hunting license is required for box trapping cottontail 1 10 rabbits and squirrels. All traps and snares used for the 1 11 taking of fur-bearing animals shall have a metal tag attached 1 12 plainly labeled with the user's name and address. All traps 1 13 and snares, except those which are placed entirely under 1 14 water, shall be checked at least once every twenty-four hours. 1 15 Officers appointed by the department may confiscate such traps 1 16 and snares found in use that are not properly labeled or 1 17 checked. 1 18 EXPLANATION 1 19 The bill authorizes the natural resource commission of the 1 20 department of natural resources to allow the taking of 1 21 muskrats with the use of colony traps as provided by rule of 1 22 the commission.
