1 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION NO.
1 2 BY MYERS
1 3 A House Resolution congratulating the University of
1 4 Iowa Hawkeyes Wrestling Team.
1 5 WHEREAS, the citizens of Iowa are justly thrilled
1 6 that the University of Iowa Wrestling Team won the
1 7 NCAA Division I Wrestling Tournament, their 6th
1 8 consecutive national title and their 8th title in nine
1 9 seasons, winning the national title for the 20th time
1 10 in the past 26 years; and
1 11 WHEREAS, the University of Iowa Wrestling Team also
1 12 won the Big Ten Conference Wrestling Tournament, which
1 13 was its 26th Big Ten title in 27 years; and
1 14 WHEREAS, the team members are to be congratulated
1 15 on their individual efforts, without which team
1 16 success would not be possible; and
1 17 WHEREAS, Head Coach Jim Zalesky was named Big 10
1 18 Coach of the Year after the final meet of the Big Ten
1 19 Conference tournament, and in 1999 was named Coach of
1 20 the Year by the National Wrestling Coaches
1 21 Association; and
1 22 WHEREAS, the consistent performance of the
1 23 University of Iowa Wrestling Team over time has
1 24 prompted Sports Illustrated magazine to recognize the
1 25 program as one of the top 20 favorite sports
1 26 dynasties; NOW THEREFORE,
1 27 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
1 28 That the House of Representatives congratulates the
1 29 University of Iowa Wrestling Team, Head Coach Jim
1 30 Zalesky, and the coaching staff on their successful
2 1 season, thanks them for the honor and excitement they
2 2 brought to the State of Iowa, and wishes them the very
2 3 best in the future.
