  1  1    Section 1.  Section 362.5, subsection 10, Code 1999, is
  1  2 amended to read as follows:
  1  3    10.  Contracts not otherwise permitted by this section, for
  1  4 the purchase of goods or services by a city having a
  1  5 population of more than two thousand five hundred, which
  1  6 benefit a city officer or employee, if the purchases
  1  7 benefiting that officer or employee do not exceed a cumulative
  1  8 total purchase price of one five thousand five hundred dollars
  1  9 in a fiscal year.
  1 10    Sec. 2.  Section 362.5, subsection 11, Code 1999, is
  1 11 amended by striking the subsection.  
  1 12                           EXPLANATION
  1 13    This bill provides that the value of city contracts awarded
  1 14 to city officers or employees shall not exceed $5,000 in a
  1 15 fiscal year.  Current law has a total contract limit of $1,500
  1 16 in cities having a population of more than 2,500 and $2,500 in
  1 17 cities having a population of 2,500 or less.
