1 1 Section 1. STUDY – NEEDLE STICK PROTECTION. The labor
1 2 commissioner, in cooperation with the Iowa department of
1 3 public health, shall conduct a study of laws and regulations
1 4 relating to the protection of persons who may be at risk of
1 5 needle stick injuries in the course of employment. The study
1 6 shall include the review of current laws and regulations and
1 7 any pending federal legislation or regulations. The labor
1 8 commissioner shall submit a report to the general assembly and
1 9 the governor by December 15, 1999, which shall include any
1 10 recommendations for changes in state law or rules, which are
1 11 not in conflict with federal law or regulations, to improve
1 12 protective measures relating to needle stick injuries.
1 13 EXPLANATION
1 14 This bill requires the labor commissioner, in cooperation
1 15 with the Iowa department of public health, to conduct a study
1 16 of laws and regulations relating to the protection of persons
1 17 who may be at risk of needle stick injuries. The study is to
1 18 include review of current laws and regulations and any pending
1 19 federal legislation or regulations. The bill directs the
1 20 labor commissioner to submit a report to the general assembly
1 21 and the governor by December 15, 1999, which is to include any
1 22 recommendations for changes in laws and rules to improve
1 23 protective measures.
