1 1 Section 1. Section 279.8A, unnumbered paragraph 1, Code
1 2 1999, is amended to read as follows:
1 3 The board may make necessary rules to provide for the
1 4 policing, control, and regulation of traffic and parking of
1 5 vehicles and bicycles on school grounds. The board may charge
1 6 a reasonable fee for motor vehicle parking in parking
1 7 facilities located on school grounds. The rules may provide
1 8 for the use of institutional roads, driveways, and grounds;
1 9 registration of vehicles and bicycles; the designation of
1 10 parking areas and fees; the erection and maintenance of signs
1 11 designating prohibitions or restrictions; the installation and
1 12 maintenance of parking control devices; and assessment,
1 13 enforcement, and collection of reasonable penalties for the
1 14 violation of the rules.
1 15 EXPLANATION
1 16 This bill authorizes the board of directors of a school
1 17 district to charge a reasonable fee for motor vehicle parking
1 18 in parking facilities located on school grounds. Rules
1 19 adopted by the board may provide for the designation of
1 20 parking fees.
