  1  4 RELATING TO CARRYING A GUN IN OR ON A VEHICLE ON A PUBLIC
  1  5    HIGHWAY.

  1  7 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:
  1  8 
  1  9    Section 1.  Section 483A.36, Code 1999, is amended to read
  1 10 as follows:
  1 11    483A.36  MANNER OF CONVEYANCE.
  1 12    1.  No A person, except as permitted by law, shall not have
  1 13 or carry a gun in or on a vehicle on a public highway, unless
  1 14 the gun is taken down or totally contained in a securely
  1 15 fastened case, and its barrels and magazines are unloaded.
  1 16    2.  If a detachable magazine is loaded with ammunition, but
  1 17 is detached from a gun that is otherwise unloaded, the gun
  1 18 shall be considered unloaded for purposes of this section.
  1 19    Sec. 2.  Section 724.4, subsection 4, Code 1999, is amended
  1 20 by adding the following new paragraph:
  1 21    NEW PARAGRAPH.  1.  A person who carries a gun in or on a
  1 22 vehicle on a public highway in compliance with section
  1 23 483A.36.
