  1  1    Section 1.  Section 56.41, subsection 2, paragraph i, Code
  1  2 1999, is amended to read as follows:
  1  3    i.  (1)  Meals, groceries, or other food expense, except
  1  4 for tickets.
  1  5    (2)  Notwithstanding subparagraph (1), use of campaign
  1  6 funds for the following purposes is permitted:
  1  7    (a)  Tickets to meals that the candidate attends solely for
  1  8 the purpose of enhancing the candidate's candidacy or the
  1  9 candidacy of another person, or providing service to
  1 10 constituents or performing duties of office.  However, payment
  1 11    (b)  Payment for food and drink purchased for campaign
  1 12 related purposes and for entertainment of campaign volunteers
  1 13 is permitted.  
  1 14                           EXPLANATION 
  1 15    This bill amends Code section 56.41, subsection 2,
  1 16 paragraph "i", to permit the use of campaign funds for payment
  1 17 of tickets to meals that an elected officeholder attends in
  1 18 order to provide service to constituents or to perform the
  1 19 duties of office.
  1 20    The bill also divides the existing Code paragraph into
  1 21 subparagraphs.
