1 1 Section 1. Section 137C.35, unnumbered paragraph 2, Code
1 2 1999, is amended to read as follows:
1 3 A bed and breakfast inn is subject to regulation,
1 4 licensing, and inspection under this chapter, but separate
1 5 toilet and lavatory facilities shall not be required for each
1 6 guest room. Additionally, a bed and breakfast inn is exempt
1 7 from fire safety rules adopted pursuant to section 100.35 and
1 8 applicable to hotels, but is subject to fire safety rules
1 9 which the state fire marshal shall specifically adopt for bed
1 10 and breakfast inns.
1 11 EXPLANATION
1 12 This bill exempts bed and breakfast inns, defined as hotels
1 13 which have nine or fewer guest rooms, from fire safety rules
1 14 applicable to hotels, but provides that bed and breakfast inns
1 15 are subject to fire safety rules which the state fire marshal
1 16 is required to specifically adopt for bed and breakfast inns.
